Masternaut gives Mamas & Papas a quicker route home

Mamas & Papas, the market-leading nursery equipment specialist, is adopting space-age technology to boost customer service to thousands of expectant mums around the country. The Yorkshire Company is equipping its home delivery vehicles with a Masternaut satellite tracking and mobile management system that provides the business with live information via the Internet.

Masternaut provides Mamas & Papas up-to-the-minute information on each vehicle’s whereabouts and connects to in-cab PDA devices with electronic communication of delivery details, live navigation and even digital photo capture.

Mamas & Papas are well known for their pushchairs but the company has grown to become the biggest nursery supplier in the UK and Ireland. Products are sold through stores ranging from large national retailers to a UK network of specialist baby shops, with hundreds of items listed in a catalogue. Recently Mamas & Papas has been expanding through a network of its own stores, with 20 now open across the UK.

With the expansion of home deliveries, Mamas & Papas identified a need for on site assembly and this service is being rolled out throughout the country with a dedicated fleet of vehicles and trained installation staff.

Masternaut is a fully-managed service providing access to all information via the web, making it very easy to use and accessible from any PC or device with an Internet connection.

In-vehicle PDA’s, linked to an on-board GPS satellite and mobile communications unit, run Masternaut’s M-Schedule software. This provides scheduling and the live despatch of jobs with electronic signature capture, as well as on-screen mapping and voice-aided navigation to each customer - something that will be very useful for finding well-hidden homes.

Mamas & Papas also see the logging of live information as really important as it will provide a record of actual journey and on site times in order that scheduling can be made as accurately as possible. The system will also alert if a vehicle has not reached a certain point in time so customer service staff call customers and to give an accurate delivery time.

Mamas & Papas will be using the latest PDA’s incorporating a digital camera that can transmit live pictures if delivery and assembly staff need help when at site or on route.

"The aim is to be able to provide the best service and that means getting to customers when we say we will and, if we get hold ups such as traffic on route, we know straight away and can keep the waiting customer informed of any delay" says Richard Holdsworth, Home Delivery Logistics Planner at Mamas and Papas.
