Masternaut announces portable tracker

Portable Tracker
30 October, 2007

Masternaut has launched the world's first fully portable vehicle tracker for driver working hour monitoring via the Internet. Designed to help ensure drivers comply with new a new Road Transport Working Time Directive, the device automatically tracks movements and records working time hours in real time on the Web.

The fully portable, lunch-box sized satellite tracking device tracks truck and van drivers who regularly move from one vehicle to another. Linking to Masternaut's HourTrak service, driver movements and working status are sent to instantly via the web to provide a complete log of activities. E-mailed time sheets provide accurate records of hours worked and as well as providing Working Time records, the system also provides automatically validated information for payroll and proof of work.

Drivers can carry the device freely from one vehicle to another and their movements are then tracked automatically via the Internet. With this live tracking, drivers do not need to be called on their mobile phones to find out where they are.

The system was first developed for the driver hire industry where personnel drive different vehicles for any number of transport operators. In such circumstances, keeping track of hours behind the wheel is difficult and the Masternaut system provides a quick and easy solution to keep a check on the hours being worked.

With the portable HourTrak tracking unit, driver movement and time is recorded automatically. The driver can also use the unit to record working time and non working time in line with the Working Time regulations. Other options include an electronic job despatch capability with navigation so that drivers can be guided to pick ups and deliveries; useful if they are not familiar with the area or the scheduled route.

"We believe Masternaut is pretty essential technology in view of the new Working Time regulations and we cannot see any better way to keep records up to the level required under this new law" says James Rawstron, Director of Driver & Warehouse (D&W), the agency staffing company and first adopter of the system.
