Masternaut delivers immediate benefits to Jeffreys Haulage

Jeffreys Haulage
20 November, 2007

In just 3 months Jeffreys Haulage Company Limited has already seen extremely positive results from using the Masternaut advanced satellite tracking service. The forward thinking transport company implemented Masternaut in May 2007 and is now an ardent supporter of the service, having seen the immediate benefits of precision tracking of vehicles and an improvement in the driving style of their drivers. This is helping the company to slash fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions.

By utilising Masternaut's vehicle idling report functionality Jeffreys Haulage transport management team was able to identify inefficiencies due to stationary vehicles running their engines unnecessarily.

Steve Batkin, Group Operations and Customer Services Manager, Jeffreys Haulage Company Limited, says: "Even seasoned drivers were shocked by the number of hours they were letting their vehicles idle. On average this was as much as 8 hours in a week. Considering drivers are working an average of  240 shifts a year, then this idling time can have big implications to fuel costs and emissions. We generate a chart to show who are the most fuel efficient drivers and this is helping to encourage driving style improvements throughout the team, which is better for the environment and better for our fuel bills. A lot of bad driving practices have simply stopped since we implemented Masternaut."

Jeffreys Haulage transport management staff are well acquainted with tracking technology, but chose the web-based real time Masternaut service because of its superior technology, robustness, user-friendliness and a recommendation from Masternaut customer United Biscuits.  "Masternaut gives us complete visibility of our fleet at any time, it also allows us to generate detailed management reports and helps us to better manage our team of drivers. We know exactly who is driving, which vehicle they are driving and exactly what they are carrying. We can even help locate and redirect lost drivers; this is particularly useful when dealing with agency supplied personnel," says Steve Batkin.

The Swadlincote, Derbyshire, based company has a wide range of customers including United Biscuits, Nestlé, Kuehne+Nagel, Wincanton, Tarmac and DHL/Tradeteam. "Our customers are very impressed with our adoption of the Masternaut service. We give them access to the service to view and monitor our performance. This takes away any guess work and they can see in real time whether or not we are doing a good job for them," says Steve Batkin.

"Masternaut's customer service is excellent. If we have a query, their team reacts quickly to resolve any issues. We are currently investigating how far we can make use of Masternaut's features and functionality. For example, we would like to develop a method of monitoring empty running between deliveries and collections. This will help us to further improve efficiencies," concludes Steve Batkin.
